Joust of the Saracen

One of the most famous equestrian tournaments in Italy, Arezzo's Giostra del Saracino is the city's historical reenactment and the most attended and followed event by the local community and visitors. The participants are the four quarters of the city of Arezzo: Porta Crucifera, Porta del Foro, Porta Sant'Andrea and Porta santo Spirito in addition to the Arezzo Flag-wavers Association, the Gruppo Musici Giostra del Saracino and the Signa Arretii Association, as well as, where provided, the Magistracy and other authorities of the Joust. The competitions between districts will determine the winner of the Joust who will be awarded the Lancia d'Oro, the prestigious prize of contention. Joust activities begin as early as the beginning of the year with activities leading up to the two palii held in June and September, respectively.
