The Living Nativity of Sutera

In the ancient quarter of Arab origins, called Rabato, the great event of the birth of Jesus takes place. The maze of narrow streets, the white lime houses, the warm lights and the scents of food create the ideal atmosphere for this Living Nativity scene that boasts the honor of being registered in the R.E.I ( Register of Intangible Heritage) of the region of Sicily. On the night of Dec. 24, Joseph and Mary knock on 40 doors to seek shelter for the night...the scene concludes with Holy Mass and the homage to the grotto of the Nativity by all the figurants and the faithful. A peasant village is set up along the route and near the grotto with tools of the past and representation of old crafts that have never been forgotten, and it will be impossible to resist the smell and taste of typical dishes such as " Li Ciciri" " Lu Pani Cunzato" the "maccu" soup and "guastedda."
