What we are going to do
The Animated Visit traces the second part of the history of Villa Pisani, the ancient residence in Stra on the Riviera del Brenta, owned by the Pisani family until 1807, when the villa was purchased by Napoleon, who became king of Italy in 1805, who gave it to his viceroy, Eugene de Beauharnais. The latter remodeled the apartments in the Empire style for himself and his wife, Viceregine Augusta Amalia, daughter of the Elector Prince of Bavaria. Although the marriage was arranged for political reasons, the two loved each other tenderly and passionately, as the visit reveals through the confidences of the viceroy's attendant.
The villa and especially the park underwent profound transformations during this period to adapt its services and style to modernity and the new romantic sensibilities that came from beyond the Alps.
The concluding moment of the animated tour is from 1814 to 1866, when it was owned by the Habsburgs and used as a representative seat and resort. Many European crowned heads passed through it: Charles IV of Spain (1815), Tsar Alexander I (1822), Ferdinand II of Bourbon King of Naples (1837), King Otto of Greece (1837), Francis I Emperor of Mexico. Notable female figures include Empress Maria Anna Carolina of Savoy, wife of Ferdinand I of Habsburg, who often spent the summer season there under the pseudonym of Countess of Ploshkovitz, a great lover of nature; her twin sister Maria Theresa of Savoy, Duchess of Parma, also the victim of a difficult marriage; and a distinguished visitor, Tsarina Alessandra Fedorovna
