Where to climb in Calabria: Mount Consolino
Mount Consolino is the gentle giant behind the village of Stilo: it frames it and backs it up, guarding some of its treasures such as the Norman Castle and the graduations of ancient hermits. It is also the perfect place for climbing enthusiasts: its limestone rocks have allowed the formation of beautiful crags to be climbed and then enjoy the view of the Stilaro Valley.
The crags of Mount Consolino
Mount Consolino has been divided into 6 sectors that identify as many areas where you can practice climbing: Grotta, Pilastrino, Gaia, Torre Staccata, Calabria Esaudita and Città del Sole. Grotta, in particular, is home to a long bolted wall on a reed-and-drop crag, one of the most beautiful of its kind in southern Italy.
Not to be missed: the Stilaro Summer Fest.
In summer, the area that includes Mount Consolino, Mount Sella, the Ferdinandea woods and the Piani di Rufo is enlivened by Stilaro Summer Fest, a festival dedicated to connecting with nature through mindful movement. There are plenty of activities for both adrenaline junkies and those who prefer relaxation and introspection, but always, regularly, outdoors. The crags of Mount Consolin are big stars of these festival days!
