San Fili Castle in Stignano, a Wonder to be Saved
Also known as Casino San Fili, with its unusual architecture, abandoned state and view of the Ionian Sea, it draws you in like a siren's song
Where

What and where is San Fili Castle
There are places that seem to whisper stories of nobility and mystery, and San Fili Castle in Stignano is precisely one of them. Also known as Casino San Fili, this 18th-century jewel enchants you with its rare triangular layout, standing solitary where the Calabrian sky and mountains meet. Today, unfortunately, we look at it as a wonder to be saved: time and neglect have made it fragile, a wounded giant waiting with dignity for a restoration capable of restoring it to its former glory, a guardian of memories that deserves to be preserved.
Not to be missed: the view from San Fili Castle, a balcony over the Ionian Sea
From the top of the hill where the castle rests, the gaze gets lost in an endless embrace between the land and the Ionian Sea. From here, the horizon is tinged with a pure blue, the very same once crossed by ships watched over by the imposing coastal towers. One of these is also visible from the castle: the San Fili Tower (or what remains of it) stands out like a faithful guardian facing the Ionian Sea. It is a view that warms the heart and invites reflection, where the wild beauty of the Calabrian nature perfectly frames the remains of an architecture that never ceases to move anyone who stops to observe it.
Curiosity: around the Casino San Fili
The castle of San Fili is part of the territory of the Municipality of Stignano, and it is not the only example of ancient architecture in the area. From the castle, you can also move on foot along the dirt road to reach the nearby San Fili Tower and enjoy once again the splendid panorama, or you can continue north towards the Byzantine church of Santa Maria Rosaria. In this case too, it is a ruined building in the middle of the Calabrian countryside, a true jewel for the suggestions and emotions it can convey.
