The Madonnas of Carlo and Vittore Crivelli
A Marche art itinerary in 15th-century sacred art among the hills of Macerata
Where

Carlo and Vittore Crivelli
Brothers, Venetians, class of 1430 the former and 1440 the latter, united by their talent for painting. Of the two, Carlo is the innovator who explores the expressiveness of faces and the depths of environments, with great virtuosity in the ornamental elements, which he paints in the antique fashion: drapery, marble, arabesques, flowers and fruit.
Vittore 's style is less sumptuous, less impactful. The colors are also more delicate. Perhaps that is why his best works are precisely the faces of his Madonnas with Child: his favorite subject.
