A walk among the "Small Lakes of the Perigine area"
Small yes, but full of charm
Where is
What it is and where it is
I am on my way to take photographs at the Montagnaga Sanctuary when, just before embarking on the road that climbs the mountainside, I become aware of the existence of a lake that is very inconspicuous, hidden among the tree foliage and slightly sunken, as if intimidated by its modest size. I stop: an unexpected trail is about to begin , a totally unplanned walk of about three hours among the small lakes of the Perigine area.
Why it is special
These small bodies of water, scattered in the municipal territory of Pergine Valsugana, are not so much places of tourism, like the nearby lakes of Caldonazzo or Levico. On the contrary, they look much more like real, almost unspoiled natural habitats , rich in their own lake and marsh fauna and flora, typical of the biotopes found in the provincial territory.

Along the way you will find plaques that will tell you a little about the vegetation and small reptiles that inhabit these almost surreal-looking biotopes suspended in time. In Lake Pudro, in particular, and along its vegetation-filled shores, you will discover that biological plant and animal species that have disappeared elsewhere are breeding and spreading. Walk through the biotope in silence and perhaps, if you are lucky, among the reeds or on the water's surface, you might spot grey herons, mallards, bitterns, garganeys, coots, moorhens.
A bit of history
The "Small Lakes of Pergine" trail begins near the very small provincial biotope called Costa, exactly like the very old settlement on the nearby hill. The hamlet of Per gine is mentioned in some written texts as far back as the 12th century. Follow, then, the traces of an ancient Roman road that will lead you toward Vigalzano and the subsequent lakes, among fairy-tale views and moments of pure relaxation in the midst of nature, among water, woods, countryside and reeds.
Curiosity
At a certain point, behind the Madrano Lake, along the promenade, you will find on the right a very peculiar house compared to the others. As you get closer, you will notice that this one was built on an unworked rock that is as if it protruded from the very foundation of the house. A house that, given its location, itself seems to respect the habitat that surrounds it.
