A small village with a rich archaeological and natural heritage

Sennariolo: where it is and what to see
Sennariolo is one of the smallest villages in Sardinia. It has fewer than 200 inhabitants and is located in the province of Oristano, 400 m above sea level on the western slope of Montiferru. When you walk through its lanes and admire the houses embellished on the façade with jambs, architraves and cornices, you immerse yourself in the world of the Sardinian hinterland. The beautiful walk can be completed with a visit to the parish church of St. Andrew the Apostle, dating from 1676, with its characteristic bell tower.
Street art and tradition: the murals of Sennariolo
Sennariolo is enriched by beautiful mur als that enliven its streets. As in other villages with murals in Sardinia, street art here serves the memory and truest soul of this place. Earthy colors and scenes of rural life bring to life the agro-pastoral traditions of the Sardinian hinterland.
Around Sennariolo: the rio Mannu and the nuraghi
But the village also offers much in its surroundings. The whole area, in fact, lies on the banks of the Rio Mannu river and the Rio di Marale, where you can find a rich river fauna, such as trout and eels, and in the countryside surrounding the village you can find a large number of nuraghi, which also date back to the archaic period, among which "Fromigas," and "Murcu," are the most noteworthy.
Not to be missed: the rites of Holy Week
Particularly striking is the rite of Su Settenariu, which represents the celebration, in the Sardinian language, of the seven sorrows of the Blessed Virgin (Nostra Signora 'e Sos Dolores or Sa Virgine e Sos Dolores). It begins on the Friday preceding Sa Chenabura, and ends on the following Thursday. Its duration is, therefore, seven days as many as the sorrows of Nostra Signora and is composed of different rituals and prayers that accompany the village for the duration of the event. It is a very evocative time to visit the village by immersing oneself in its tradition.
