Cesare Battisti Square in Rieti
Historic square in the center of Rieti, surrounded by beautiful buildings
Where is
What it is and where it is Piazza Cesare Battisti
In the beating heart of Rieti, Cesare Battisti Square stands as a fascinating crossroads between past and present. Surrounded by historic buildings, the square offers visitors a charming atmosphere, where the architecture tells stories of distant eras. The stone pavement and surrounding building facades create an environment that invites contemplation and discovery.
Why it's special: the gardens of the Rieti prefecture.
Like many beautiful squares in Italy, Rieti's is dominated by the cathedral, specifically dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture with Baroque interventions. If, however, in many squares the stones of the pavement and surrounding buildings prevail, in Rieti's Piazza Cesare Battisti there is a beautiful Italian garden, with elegant boxwood hedges composing geometric shapes. This is a garden that was once private but was later acquired by the Province of Rieti, which rearranged it and opened it to citizens and visitors as a public park. A beautiful green corner in the city's living room.
Not to be missed: palazzo Vincentini
The gardens in the square are often called "Vignola Gardens" because they are adjacent to a beautiful palace: Palazzo Vincentini, in fact. Formerly a stately home, today the palace is home to the Prefecture. Magnificent is its loggia, which opens onto the gardens and the surrounding panorama.
