Recco Focaccia with Cheese PGI Festival
A festival to celebrate a gastronomic product of excellence
In a nutshell
"Focaccia di Recco col formaggio IGP" is the symbol of the Ligurian town, a baked product with a dough made from wheat flour, Italian extra virgin olive oil, water, and salt, filled with fresh cheese, then baked in the oven. It is precisely the quality of the ingredients, its processing and the history it holds in its tasty flavor that have earned it the PGI label.
The festival, which takes place at the end of May every year, began in 1955 and has become increasingly important over the years. It is also for this reason that the Consortium of Focaccia di Recco col formaggio was created, which has obtained European IGP protection and represents the historic companies that have made the product famous, thus enhancing the territory of origin.
During the event there are markets, musical performances, activities aimed at children, the "scianke" (speed contests in eating regular focaccia or stuffed with onions) and the "No Limits Challenge," during which ten volunteers challenge each other in eating a focaccia weighing one kilogram.
